A 25-year-old DeLand man was killed on Saturday afternoon after his motorcycle was involved in a three-vehicle crash on State Road 40 in Volusia County.

The fatal accident took place at around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, near the intersection of State Road 40 and Conifer Lane, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The report stated that the motorcyclist was heading westbound on State 40. As he approached the intersection of Conifer Lane, he failed to stop for a Nissan Altima that was stopped ahead.

As a result, the front of the motorcycle struck the rear of the Nissan, and the motorcyclist was thrown off his vehicle.

A third vehicle – a GMC Terrain – was heading westbound on State Road 40 when the initial crash occurred. Unable to avoid a collision, the GMC struck the motorcycle and its rider before veering off the roadway into a ditch.

The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

The two other drivers involved – a 48-year-old St. Johns woman (Nissan) and 60-year-old Crescent City woman (GMC) – were not injured.

The fatal accident remains under investigation, according to FHP.
