A 20-year-old Winter Springs man was killed early Friday morning after his SUV struck a gate and crashed into an unoccupied home in Seminole County.
The fatal accident took place in Oviedo, near the entrance of the Clayton Crossing subdivision, at around 2:35 a.m. on Friday, November 1.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was traveling northbound on Clayton Crossing Way in a 2010 Lexus RX 350 when he approached the Clayton Crossing subdivision’s gated entrance.
FHP stated that the man failed to slow down as his SUV neared the gate, and a collision ensued. After striking the gate, the vehicle continued northbound on Clayton Crossing Way, and the man failed to navigate a curve the roadway makes onto Hidden Cypress Lane.
As a result, the SUV veered off the roadway before colliding with a house. An FHP trooper noted that no one was inside the residence at the time of the crash.
The SUV’s driver and sole occupant was transported to Oviedo Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. The report stated that he was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
