A 35-year-old suspect was arrested by Sanford police after a fatal shooting, which left one woman dead, was livestreamed on social media.
Shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, Sanford Police Department officers responded to Greystone Townhomes located in the 1700 block of Travertine Terrace after shots were reportedly fired in the area, according to SPD.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a female victim, identified as 34-year-old Lauren Ashley Martin, who was laying in the roadway. She was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and she was rushed to a local hospital.
While at the hospital, the victim died from her injuries.
Sanford police launched a homicide investigation, which revealed that the victim had driven to a residence belonging to 35-year-old Savon Chantay Tyler. Upon arriving at the home, the victim and Tyler engaged in an “ongoing argument,” which quickly escalated into a physical altercation.
During the altercation, Tyler allegedly shot the victim multiple times.
According to police, the incident was livestreamed on social media, and detectives are in possession of the livestream videos.
Tyler was arrested and transported to Seminole County Jail, where she is currently being held without bond. She is being charged with first-degree murder.
SPD referred to the shooting as an “isolated incident” and stated that “no one [is] at large related to this situation.”
Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith released the following statement: “A family is mourning the loss of a loved one, because someone chose to resolve a disagreement with violence. What started the argument between these two won’t be remembered, but the loss of Lauren will forever be with her family and friends. There are choices other than violence.”
