A 31-year-old suspect has been indicted on a murder charge nearly a year after he allegedly shot and killed another man at a hookah lounge in Kissimmee.

On Friday, November 8, 2024, the State Attorney’s Office for the Ninth Judicial Circuit announced that Osceola County grand jurors have formally indicted Christopher Martin Garrett, 31, for first-degree murder (with a firearm) in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred at Lungo Lounge on November 14, 2023.

On the day of the shooting, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Lungo Lounge, which is located in the 3200 block of Vineland Road in Kissimmee, in reference to shots being fired. According to OCSO, a gunman had shot a male victim before fleeing from the area.

The victim, identified as Joshua Daniel Mitchell, collapsed in the parking lot shortly after sustaining a gunshot wound. Paramedics quickly arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The sheriff’s office conducted a homicide investigation, and detectives determined that Garrett was the “prime suspect.” No further details were provided by law enforcement regarding the evidence that led detectives to identifying Garrett as the suspect in this case.

A warrant was issued for Garrett’s arrest, and he was located in Ohio earlier this year. After being placed under arrest, Garret was extradited back to Osceola County.

On Wednesday, November 6, 2024, the State presented “sufficient evidence” to a grand jury, securing an indictment against Garrett for the first-degree murder charge.

In a media release following the indictment, the State Attorney’s Office said that it is unable to provide additional information about the case at this time.
