A 57-year-old Sanford man was killed on Saturday evening after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a mailbox in Lake County.

The fatal crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, near the intersection of State Road 44 and Bottany Woods Drive in Eustis, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP stated that the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on State Road 44, north of Bottany Woods Drive, when he failed to negotiate a curve. This caused him to lose control of his 2020 Harley-Davidson FXLRS motorcycle, and it veered off the roadway to the right before colliding with a concrete mailbox.

The impact caused the man to be thrown off his motorcycle.

Paramedics arrived on scene and transported the man to AdventHealth DeLand, where he was pronounced deceased.

In the report, an FHP trooper mentioned that the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
