William Russell Joyce, known to friends as Bill, was born on July 22, 1933 in Cleveland Ohio to Dorothy Ann (Keenan) Joyce and William Russell Joyce. He attended high school and college in Baltimore Maryland, graduating from John Hopkins University. He lived and worked in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for about forty years, where he met his wife Sonia Fosse and had his daughter Monica Joyce. Most recently he called Orlando, Florida home, where he spent many of his last thirty years.
Bill’s career was varied and compelling, taking him to California, New York, and Japan, in addition to Rio. He worked as a consultant in various industries, eventually founding his own consulting company where he introduced new types of computer software to Brazilian companies. Later in life one of his passion projects was running a small travel agency where he could help friends and family have memorable adventures. Bill had an incredible ability to fully embrace the places he lived and love the culture and people who lived there. He was endlessly curious and forged strong connections wherever he went, touching many people’s lives. He was deeply interested in people and their stories, and was always excited to be out in the world, experiencing all it had to offer.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sonia Fosse, his daughters Monica Joyce and Jenifer Joyce, his son-in-law Ben Kremnitzer (Monica’s husband), his siblings Trish Joyce and Tom Joyce, and his grandson Ristiani Joyce (Jenifer’s son).
Bill was a man of strong conviction, boundless love, and devoted service, and his legacy lives on in the hearts of his loved ones.
