Two people were killed on Sunday night after their motorcycle crashed into a pickup truck that was turning at an intersection in Volusia County.

The accident occurred at around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, November 17, at the intersection of U.S. 17 and Lake Winona Road in DeLeon Springs, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The report stated that a 2020 Ram 1500 pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Lake Winona Road when it reached a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 17. The vehicle then attempted to make a left turn onto U.S. 17.

A 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was heading southbound on U.S. 17, near Lake Winona Road, when the pickup truck “failed to yield” to the motorcycle. As a result, the motorcycle collided with the front left section of the truck.

The motorcycle had two occupants: a 57-year-old Holly Hill man (rider) and 53-year-old Jacksonville woman (passenger). The rider was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the passenger was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.

While at the hospital, the motorcycle’s passenger died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The two occupants of the pickup truck – a 46-year-old woman and 11-year-old boy, both from Crystal River – were not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
