A 22-year-old Orlando man was arrested by police after shots were fired in the parking lot of a Circle K convenience store in Volusia County.
According to the Orange City Police Department, officers responded to the Circle K located at 1701 N Volusia Avenue at around 11:25 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, in reference to a possible shooting. Upon arrival, officers learned that several individuals had been involved in a “disturbance” in the parking lot.
The individuals involved in the incident had fled in separate vehicles prior to the arrival of law enforcement. A BOLO (be on the lookout) alert was issued for those vehicles, and OCPD stated that “all subjects were quickly located and interviewed.”
Detectives launched an investigation, which revealed that four individuals were involved in an altercation in the Circle K parking lot. A fifth individual – a street sweeper identified as De’Algernard De’Shawn Brown – was working nearby on Volusia Avenue, according to police.
OCPD stated that Brown “became actively engaged in the disturbance” in the convenience store parking lot. During the incident, Brown allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots toward a vehicle that was involved.
No one was struck by the gunfire.
Brown and the other individuals “immediately fled the scene,” allegedly chasing each other in their respective vehicles.
After detectives interviewed everyone involved in the incident, Brown was placed under arrest and transported to Volusia County Jail. He is currently being held on an $11,000 bond, and he is facing the following charges: two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of battery.
“This incident remains an open and active investigation,” stated OCPD in a media release on Wednesday, November 20. No further details were provided by the agency.
