A two-vehicle crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Osceola County left one person dead and two others injured on Friday evening.
The fatal accident took place on the Turnpike, near mile marker 226, at around 5:50 p.m. on Friday, November 22, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The report stated that a 19-year-old Orlando woman was heading northbound on the Turnpike in a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox when her vehicle traveled into the inside shoulder. She then over-corrected to the right, which caused her vehicle to enter the direct path of a 2018 Hyundai Accent that was in the outside lane.
As a result, the front side of the Chevrolet struck the left side of the Hyundai. After the initial impact, the Hyundai collided with a nearby tree, and the Chevrolet ran off the roadway before coming to a final rest on the right shoulder.
The Hyundai had three occupants at the time of the accident: a 40-year-old woman (driver), 68-year-old woman (front-right passenger), and 9-year-old girl (rear passenger), all from Miami.
The Hyundai’s driver and adult passenger were transported to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital in serious condition. While at the hospital, the adult passenger died from her injuries.
The 9-year-old passenger was taken to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in critical condition.
The driver and sole occupant of the Chevrolet was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
