Robert James Mitchell passed away unexpectedly in Oviedo, Florida on November 16,2024 at the age of 59.

Robert is survived by his wife Hope Mitchell, daughters Beth Lesso (Eric) and Amber Mitchell, and son Stephen Mitchell (Victoria). He was also blessed with four grandchildren – Kolton, Landon, Waylon, and Harmony and a very large extended family. His sister Lisa Hill (Tim) who resides in Georgia and his Aunt Linda and Uncle Dick in California.

Robert was born on January 12, 1965 in Sanford, Florida to Carol D. Mitchell and Robert H. Mitchell. He graduated from Central Gwinnett High School in Georgia and later went on to graduate from the police academy in 1992. In 1997 Robert met and fell in love with Hope Hogue and convinced her to marry him in three weeks. They shared 27 beautiful years together.

Robert devoted 25 years to his career in law enforcement. He enjoyed his career in the Quad Squad, CCIB, DEA, Investigations, and Road Patrol. He was blessed to retire in 2017 and enjoyed 7 years of retirement. Of all the things he accomplished, the love and happiness of his family was Robert’s greatest success and source of joy. He reveled in his role as “PopPop,” pouring much of his spare time into building projects for his grandchildren, and excitedly sharing with them his love of the outdoors. Time spent with Robert never passed without a laugh or a teaching moment. His curiosity for life and learning was evident and contagious, always exploring and mastering some new skill in the woodshop or the kitchen. His presence was undeniable.

A celebration of life will be held at the Sanford Civic Center on Sunday November 24, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
