He was predeceased by his parents, Maskell W. A Hunt, Sr. and Mary Tierney Hunt.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother; Collyer Hunt (Sharon); three devoted daughters, Tierney Hunt Screven (Slade), Erin Hunt and Shannon Hunt; as well as three grandchildren, John Screven, Dr. Ryan Screven and Lara Screven; as well as countless nieces and nephews.
A long-term resident of Hamden, Mickey was born on Dec 25th, 1932, in New Haven and went to Hamden High School and Mercersburg Academy. He spent his early summers at Camp Sherwood on Lake Walloon, where his father was the head of equestrian. He graduated from Michigan State University in East Lansing and that is where he met and married the love of his life, Marilyn Eagle, on June 8, 1957. Relocating back to Hamden, Connecticut, Mickey worked as a teacher for 37 years in the town of East Haven before retiring in 1994.
Along with his parents, Mickey spent his adult summers as the owner and Director of Buff Ledge Camp on Lake Champlain in Vermont. He also served as an assistant to Yale Swimming Head Coach, Frank Keefe Jr (his cousin), for many years. Mickey was larger than life and served as a mentor and surrogate father to countless students, campers, swimmers, and friends of his children. He made friends with everyone he met, and his kind, loving and gentle spirit drew people to him. He loved to be curious and was an avid reader of history books, loved watching college and pro sports of all kinds, listening to his jazz, spending time with the family horses and dogs and collecting fun t-shirts.
He was proud of his Irish heritage and told the greatest stories; had the best one-liners, including making up different names for people and places that he could not remember. Most of all, he loved his family more than his own life and would tell them every day, so nothing was left unsaid. A celebration of life event will be hosted in Orlando in early February
