A Kissimmee man recently turned $150 into more than $1 million after winning three separate prizes from the Florida Lottery’s 500X THE CASH scratch-off game.
On Tuesday, December 3, the Florida Lottery announced that 68-year-old John Schaafsma stopped by its Orlando District Office to claim the three prizes that he won during his “extraordinary streak of luck.”
Schaafsma’s prizes from the 500X THE CASH scratch-off game include a $1,000 win in August, along with a massive $1 million win later that same month. In November, he also won another $1,000 prize.
Both winning tickets in August were purchased by Schaafsma at K & M Drugs located at 395 Village Drive in Poinciana.
Schaafsma opted to receive a one-time payment of $640,000 from his $1 million win, and the pharmacy received a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning scratch-off ticket.
The 500X THE CASH scratch-off game costs $50 and features a top prize of $25 million, along with more than $1.6 billion in total cash prizes. The overall odds of winning are 1-in-4.23, according to lottery officials.
