A 26-year-old woman has been arrested on a DUI charge after her car struck and killed a pedestrian on Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando on Sunday morning.

The fatal crash took place at around 4 a.m. on Sunday, December 15, near the intersection of S Orange Blossom Trail and Skyview Drive, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The report stated that the driver – identified as 26-year-old Orlando resident Alyssa Winters – was traveling southbound on Orange Blossom Trail, south of the Skyview Drive intersection, in a 2016 Lexus IS.

Winters’ car was in the center lane on Orange Blossom Trail when an adult female pedestrian began walking across the roadway. A trooper mentioned in the report that the pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk when she proceeded to step into the direct path of the vehicle.

As a result, the front of the car hit the pedestrian. She was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased.

“The Medical Examiner’s Office will update FHP once they have positively identified the deceased,” noted a trooper in the report.

The driver and sole occupant of the car, Winters, remained at the scene of the crash. FHP launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of Winters for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

No further details regarding the fatal accident or what led to Winters’ arrest were provided by FHP.

The crash remains under investigation.
