Constantine Ormsby, 79, passed away on March 12, 2023.
He was born on August 24 1943 in Kingston, Jamaica to Myrtle James and Cecil Ormsby. He grew up in Kingston, Jamaica and went to St Aloysius Boys School.
Constantine emigrated to West Bromwich, England in 1961 where he continued his education and obtained his City and Guilds Diploma in Electronics Engineering.
He met his wife Mary in West Bromwich in 1963 and they married in July 1968.
Constantine worked as a TV engineer at D.E.R and Multi – Broadcast for a number of years; but, his real passion was music and he became a DJ under the pseudonym Barry Curtis. He played an integral part in introducing soul and reggae music to the UK during his time at BBC West Midlands and Beacon Radio and helped the black community who had emigrated from the Caribbean “have a piece of home” with them.
In April 2007, Constantine and Mary emigrated to the USA and he worked for Gencor Industries for a number of years before retiring in September 2019.
Outside of his love of music, Constantine was a lover of cricket and followed the West Indies as much as he could. He also enjoyed fixing anything electrical and helped many of his family and friends with any technological issues they had.
He is survived by his wife Mary, children Rosie and Darren, sisters, brother and wider family.
