A Central Florida woman recently turned $5 into $1 million after purchasing a scratch-off lottery ticket at a local convenience store.

On Monday, December 30, the Florida Lottery announced that Sanford resident Belinda Dozier visited the Lottery’s Orlando District Office to claim a $1 million prize from the BONUS LETTER CROSSWORD scratch-off game.

The $5 word-themed game features more than 5.4 million winning tickets with total cash prizes of over $76 million, including 10 top prizes of $1 million. The overall odds are 1-in-4.00, according to lottery officials.

Dozier won one of those top prizes, and she chose to receive her winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000.

The winning scratch-off ticket was purchased by Dozier at Upsala Grocery, which is located at 300 Upsala Road in Sanford. The convenience store received a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.
