A Casselberry man was arrested for his alleged involvement in a deadly hit-and-run crash in Seminole County that claimed the life of a bicyclist.
The crash took place at around 3:15 p.m. on Friday, January 3, near the intersection of Creeks Bend Drive and Red Bug Lake Road, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The report stated that a 2017 Ford F-150 was traveling northbound on Creeks Bend Drive, at the intersection of Red Bug Lake Road, when a 62-year-old bicyclist from Casselberry entered the marked crosswalk within the intersection.
As the pickup truck began turning right onto Red Bug Lake Road, the vehicle’s driver – later identified as 28-year-old Kyle Izbicky – “failed to yield the right of way to (the bicyclist),” according to FHP.
The front of the pickup truck proceeded to strike the bicycle, and its rider was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert with critical injuries.
After the collision, Izbicky allegedly fled eastbound on Red Bug Lake Road in his pickup truck. According to the report, a witness followed Izbicky and provided his location to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.
SCSO deputies managed to locate the unoccupied pickup truck in a nearby parking lot, and they observed a man entering the vehicle. The man, who was quickly detained, was identified as Izbicky.
Izbicky was placed under arrest and transported to Seminole County Jail. He was initially charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injuries.
On Saturday, January 4, the bicyclist died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the hit-and-run crash. FHP stated that upgraded charges against Izbicky are “pending.”
No further details were provided by FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
