A woman was killed, and two others were hospitalized, after two SUVs collided at an intersection in Orange County on Monday night.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred at around 11:20 p.m. on Monday, February 17, at the intersection of Hiawassee Road and Nestor Street in Pine Hills.
The report further stated that the crash involved two SUVs: a 2022 Toyota RAV4 and 2024 Buick Enclave.
The Toyota was traveling southbound on Hiawassee Road, north of the Nestor Street intersection, in the left lane. At the same time, the Buick was heading northbound on Hiawassee Road, south of Nestor Street, in the outside lane.
The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota, a 54-year-old Orlando woman, began making a left turn onto Nestor Street when her vehicle entered the direct path of the Buick. As a result, the Toyota’s front right section struck the front of the Buick.
After the initial impact, the Buick veered off the roadway and crashed into a tree.
The driver of the Buick, a 50-year-old Orlando woman, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. In the report, a trooper noted that the Buick’s driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The Toyota’s driver and the Buick’s sole passenger, a 54-year-old woman from Orlando, were both transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. No further updates were provided on their conditions.
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
