A group of volunteer divers helped law enforcement officers recover a car with a missing person’s remains in an Orlando retention pond on Saturday morning.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the car – a 2009 Toyota Corolla – had veered off the roadway while traveling on Dean Road, near the intersection of Eastmar Commons Boulevard. After leaving the roadway for unknown reasons, the car plunged into a retention pond and became completely submerged in water.
“The specific date and time of when the crash occurred remains under investigation,” noted a trooper in the report.
FHP stated that a volunteer civilian dive group, Sunshine State Sonar, located the Toyota at around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, while searching the pond.
The Toyota was recovered from the water and human remains were found inside. According to the report, the medical examiner’s office will update FHP once the deceased individual has been identified.
A trooper mentioned in the report that the Toyota is “associated with an Orange County Sheriff’s Office missing persons case.”
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
