The Florida Highway Patrols is searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a bicyclist on Sand Lake Road in Orange County on Tuesday night.
The fatal crash occurred at around 11:55 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, near the intersection of Sand Lake Road and Winegard Road in Orlando, according to a report from FHP.
The report stated that an unknown vehicle was traveling westbound on Sand Lake Road, east of Winegard Road, in the inside lane. At the same time, a motorized bicycle was heading in an unknown direction on Sand Lake Road.
According to FHP, the front of the vehicle proceeded to strike the bicycle while in the inside lane. After the collision, the vehicle fled from the scene of the crash.
The bicyclist, identified in the report as an adult male, was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
“The medical examiner’s office will update FHP once they have positively identified the deceased,” said a trooper in the report.
FHP believes that the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run crash is black in color, and it should have broken headlights and damage to the “front grill portion.”
