An elderly man was killed on Saturday morning after a small plane crashed near an airfield in Orange County.

At around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, Orange County Fire Rescue crews responded to the 7000 block of Jones Avenue in Mount Dora in reference to a plane crash.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a small single-engine plane that had crashed near the Bob White Airfield. The plane caught on fire after the impact, and firefighters quickly extinguished the flames.

According to OCFRD, its crew members found a man in his 70s who had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

There were no other injuries reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the plane crash.
