A motorcyclist died on Monday evening after rear-ending a tow truck on Interstate 4 in Volusia County.
The fatal collision occurred on I-4 Westbound, near mile marker 119, shortly after 8:15 p.m. on Monday, April 7, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP stated that a 21-year-old DeLand man was riding a 2022 Royal Enfield motorcycle when he attempted to change lanes, from the center lane to the outside lane, while traveling westbound on the interstate.
A trooper noted in the report that the motorcyclist failed to see a tow truck that was heading westbound in the outside lane. As a result, the front of the motorcycle struck the rear section of the tow truck.
The motorcyclist was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The tow truck’s driver and sole occupant, a 52-year-old Orange City man, was not hurt in the collision.
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
