Marcia Sheila Williams, age 83, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, in Winter Garden, Florida, due to health-related complications. She was born on January 3, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York, to Lena “Libby” Switsky and Rubin Serkin.

Marcia was first married to Saul Durst in 1961 in New York City. Together, they raised four children before separating in 1974 and divorcing in 1979. Later that same year, she married Mark Williams in Florida. Though they did not have children together, they shared several years before parting ways in 1992. For most of the last three decades of her life, Marcia shared a loving partnership with Edward Hannon in Longwood, Florida.

Professionally, Marcia worked for many years as a secretary with the National Spinal Cord Association before transitioning into a customer service role. She was passionate about gardening, music, and the beach. Marcia especially enjoyed attending concerts, exploring art fairs, and discovering new parks. A deeply compassionate person, she donated generously to various charities over the years and found joy in helping others.

Marcia was also a devoted animal lover. Throughout her life, she cared for many beloved pets—cats, dogs, birds, fish, hamsters, and snails. She also supported many animal welfare organizations with her time and donations. Her home was always open to animals in need, and she had a gentle way of forming bonds with every creature she met.

Marcia was proud of her heritage as an Ashkenazi Jew and carried with her the values of compassion, resilience, and community that were rooted in her upbringing.

She was also civically engaged and politically passionate. A proud and devoted Democrat, she volunteered for Barack Obama’s 2012 and 2016 presidential campaign, an experience that brought her great pride and purpose.

She is survived by her four beloved children: daughters: Robyn Hoard and Debbie Homer and sons Michael Durst and Jonathan Durst. She also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren: Tyler Hoard, Dylan Hoard, Riley Hoard, Emily Hoard, Lea Durst, Katelyn Homer, and Melanie Homer. Marcia is also survived by her sons-in-law, Michael Hoard and John Homer.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, Rubin Serkin (d. April 30, 1983, in Miami, Florida) and Lena “Libby” Switsky (d. February 17, 1985, in St. Louis, Missouri); her brother, Alvin “Al” Serkin (d. September 22, 2009, in St. Louis, Missouri); and her longtime partner, Edward Hannon (d. August 12, 2022, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania).

The family would like to thank Winter Garden Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, VITAS Hospice, Chaplain Shirley and Winter Oak Funeral Home.
