One person was killed, and another seriously hurt, after their SUV struck a pole and street signs before colliding with a wall in Orlando early Friday morning.

The fatal crash occurred at around 4:30 a.m. on Friday, April 18, near the intersection of Goldenrod Road and Silver Pointe Boulevard, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP stated that a 2011 Acura MDX was heading northbound on Goldenrod Road when it approached the intersection of Silver Pointe Boulevard.

An FHP trooper noted that the SUV’s driver, a 35-year-old Orlando man, “failed to negotiate a curve” in the roadway. Moments later, the vehicle left the roadway before striking a curb and nearby light pole.

The SUV then hit several street signs and continued onto the shoulder, where it collided with a wall. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn on its side.

The driver of the SUV was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. The vehicle’s sole passenger, a 40-year-old Orlando man, was taken to AdventHealth Orlando, where he was pronounced deceased.

The report stated that it is currently unknown if the SUV’s two occupants were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
