The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a 40-year-old DeLand man on Tuesday morning.
According to a report from FHP, the accident occurred shortly after 5:50 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, near the intersection of Lake Mack Drive and Inez Street in Lake County.
An unknown vehicle was heading southbound on Lake Mack Drive, north of Inez Street, when it struck the DeLand man who was in the roadway.
After the collision, the vehicle continued traveling southbound, and FHP investigators believe it may have turned right onto Inez Street.
Several witnesses observed the man laying in the southbound lane, and they contacted law enforcement. However, FHP stated that none of the witnesses saw the crash.
The man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
