“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry Velazquez, who left us far too soon on April 12, 2025.

Born on June 20, 1983, in Puerto Rico to Maribel Lopez and Jerry Velazquez Sr., Jerry was brought to Camden, New Jersey at the tender age of one. It was there he was raised before making Orlando, Florida his home at the age of thirteen—a place he would grow to love and never leave.

Jerry was a vibrant soul—full of life, energy, and warmth. He had an unforgettable personality: fun-loving, hyper, and always welcoming. He never judged anyone and was a friend to all walks of life. His passion for sports was evident—whether it was baseball, basketball, football, or boxing, he was always cheering for his favorites. He also found joy in playing pool and darts, especially at his favorite hangout, Backstage.

One of Jerry’s greatest passions was cooking. Known and respected as an exceptional chef, he had a true gift for bringing people together through food. He was the life of every party, always sharply dressed from head to toe—stylish hats, clean kicks, and an irresistible cologne that announced his presence before he spoke a word. Jerry had a magnetic spirit. It’s hard to imagine life without him.

Jerry leaves behind his beloved son, Jerry Jayden Velazquez, whom he cherished deeply. To his son: This isn’t easy. There are things you didn’t get to say, and moments you didn’t get to share. But even with the distance, his story is part of yours. Let that be fuel, not a weight. Keep going. Keep growing. And know that love can still exist in the middle of pain. He’ll be watching over you, always.

He is also survived by his loving sisters, Mariam Caban and Annie Caban; his brothers, Eddie Lopez and Luis Velazquez; and his cherished partner, Vickie Solorzano, who held a special place in his heart. His best friends’ right-hand men, Devante, Rick, and Carlos was more like a brother’s than friends. He leaves behind his adored nieces and nephew: Ariana, Tiana, Iyana, and Tyson Martinez.

Jerry will also be remembered by his grandparents, Maria Pérez and Alberto Pérez, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who loved him dearly.

Jerry Velazquez brought light wherever he went. Though his time here was brief, the love he shared and the memories he created will live on forever in our hearts.
