One driver was killed, and another was seriously injured, after a motorcycle crashed into a car that was turning at an intersection in Volusia County.
The fatal collision occurred at around 7:15 a.m. on Friday, May 23, at the intersection of State Road 415 and Fort Smith Boulevard in Deltona, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP stated that a 48-year-old Deltona man was traveling eastbound on Fort Smith Boulevard, in a 2016 Ford Fusion, when he approached the intersection of State Road 415 in the left turn lane.
At the same time, a 60-year-old Ormond Beach man was riding a 2017 Harley-Davidson FLHXS motorcycle southbound on State Road 415, near the same intersection, in the outside lane.
An FHP trooper noted that the Ford entered the intersection while attempting to make a left turn. The car then proceeded to travel into the direct path of the Harley-Davidson, and the front of the motorcycle struck the driver’s side of the car.
The Ford’s driver and sole occupant was transported to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford for treatment of serious injuries.
The motorcyclist was taken to the same hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The report mentioned that he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
