A 49-year-old Orlando man was killed on Saturday night after his moped was rear-ended by an SUV in Orange County.

The fatal accident occurred shortly after 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, at the intersection of Landstreet Road and Avenue C, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Orlando man was riding his moped eastbound on Landstreet Road, in the outside lane, when he approached the Avenue C intersection. An FHP trooper noted that an SUV was traveling behind the moped in the same lane.

The report stated that the moped’s rider began slowing for traffic ahead. The SUV’s driver and sole occupant, a 43-year-old Davenport man, was unable to slow down in time, and a collision ensued.

After the front section of the SUV struck the rear of the moped, the moped’s rider was thrown from the vehicle. The rider was not wearing a helmet, and he was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

The SUV’s driver was not injured and remained on-scene.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
