One driver was killed on Tuesday morning, and another was seriously injured, following a fiery head-on collision in Seminole County.

In a report, the Florida Highway Patrol stated that the crash occurred shortly after 5 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, at the intersection of State Road 434 and Hammock Lane in Oviedo.

According to FHP, two vehicles – a 2022 Nissan Altima and 2018 Jeep Compass – were traveling on SR 434, near the Hammock Lane intersection. A trooper noted that the Nissan was heading eastbound and the Jeep was traveling westbound on the roadway.

As the Nissan approached the intersection, its driver and sole occupant, a 36-year-old Longwood woman, “failed to negotiate a right-hand curve.” Her vehicle then proceeded to veer into the oncoming lane, directly in the path of the Jeep.

The front section of both vehicles collided, and the impact caused the Jeep to become fully engulfed in flames.

The Nissan’s driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, according to the report.

The driver and sole occupant of the Jeep, a 34-year-old Orlando man, was transported to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford. His condition was listed in the report as “serious.”

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
