A 26-year-old Orlando man died early Thursday morning after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a trailer that was being hauled by a pickup truck.
The fatal crash occurred shortly after 12:10 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, at the intersection of Sand Lake Road and Sand Lake Pointe Loop in Orange County, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The report stated that a 2024 Ram 3500 pickup truck was hauling a trailer as it traveled eastbound on Sand Lake Road, in the left turn lane, west of the Sand Lake Pointe Loop intersection.
At the same time, a 2011 Suzuki motorcycle was heading westbound in the center lane of Sand Lake Road, east of Sand Lake Pointe Loop.
A trooper noted that the pickup truck’s driver and sole occupant, a 43-year-old New Mexico man, failed to yield to the motorcycle when he made a U-turn onto Sand Lake Road. The pickup truck proceeded to travel into the direct path of the motorcycle, resulting in a collision.
According to the report, the front of the motorcycle struck the right side of the pickup truck’s trailer. The motorcycle’s rider sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
