The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating a fiery crash in Osceola County that claimed the lives of six people, including two infants and a toddler, earlier this month.
On Monday, FHP provided an updated report for the fatal collision that occurred at around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, near the intersection of State Road 60 and S Kenansville Road.
The report stated that six individuals – three adults and three children – were traveling westbound on State Road 60 in a 2024 Hyundai Tucson. When the SUV approached the Kenansville Road intersection, the driver entered the oncoming lane to pass several vehicles.
According to the report, the SUV’s driver proceeded to lose control of the vehicle after attempting to re-enter the westbound lane. As a result, the left side of the SUV crashed into the front of a semi-truck that was traveling eastbound on State Road 60.
Moments after the collision, both vehicles became fully engulfed in flames. The six occupants of the SUV were trapped in the wreckage, and they were pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident, according to the report.
The SUV’s occupants have been identified as a 26-year-old woman (driver), 19-year-old woman, 28-year-old woman, 3-year-old girl, 10-month-old boy, and 4-month-old boy, all from Fort Lauderdale.
A trooper noted in the updated report that the three children were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The driver and sole occupant of the semi-truck, a 36-year-old man from Miami Gardens, was hospitalized for treatment of minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
