A 27-year-old Tampa man was killed on Tuesday night after his motorcycle struck an SUV that was turning at an intersection in Orange County.

The fatal collision, which involved a 2007 GMC Acadia (SUV) and 2010 Yamaha FZ6R (motorcycle), occurred shortly after 9:35 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, at the intersection of Valencia College Lane and Short Pine Circle, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The SUV was traveling westbound on Valencia College Lane when its driver, a 38-year-old Orlando man, attempted to make a left turn onto Short Pine Circle. The report stated that the SUV proceeded to enter the direct path of the motorcycle, which was heading eastbound on Valencia College Lane.

Moments later, the motorcycle struck the SUV. The motorcycle’s rider and sole occupant was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

A trooper noted in the report that the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver and sole occupant of the SUV was not hurt and remained on-scene.

The accident remains under investigation, according to FHP.
