A 48-year-old Orlando man died early Wednesday morning after his sport utility vehicle collided with a box truck and semi-truck on Orange Blossom Trail.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred at around 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, near the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and Consulate Drive in Orange County.
The report stated that the Orlando man was traveling southbound on Orange Blossom Trail, near the Consulate Drive intersection, in the outside lane. A box truck was also heading southbound on OBT in the center lane.
At the same time, a semi-truck was traveling in the eastbound left turn lane on consulate drive when the driver attempted to make a left turn onto OBT.
A trooper mentioned in the report that the Orlando man lost control of his SUV near the intersection and sideswiped the box truck. The initial impact redirected the SUV in a southwest direction, where it collided with the rear section of the semi-truck.
The Orlando man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the time. The report stated that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The two other drivers involved – a 58-year-old Jacksonville man (box truck) and 37-year-old Land O’ Lakes man (semi-truck) – were not injured and remained on-scene.
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
