Sanford police are still searching for the driver who was involved in a hit-and-run crash in early June that sent a toddler to the hospital.
On Thursday, June 5, Sanford Police Department officers responded to the area of Southwest Road and Persimmon Avenue in reference to a “vehicle versus pedestrian” collision. Upon arrival, officers found a three-year-old child who had been struck by a vehicle, according to SPD.
The child was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. SPD stated that the child is in stable condition.
During an investigation, officers located the suspected hit-and-run vehicle, a white Hyundai Genesis, that had been abandoned at the scene. According to police, a driver and passenger fled from the Hyundai on foot following the crash.
“Sanford Police Investigators have followed various leads regarding the identity of the driver and passenger,” said SPD in a social media post on Monday, July 28. No further details were released by the agency.
