Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) State Trooper Car

A man was killed, and two women were seriously injured, after a motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle (ATV) collided on State Road 40 in Volusia County on Saturday night.

The crash occurred at around 11:50 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, near the intersection of State Road 40 and Pine Woods Road, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP stated that a 2017 Can-An Outlander ATV was traveling westbound on the grass shoulder of State Road 40, west of the Pine Woods Road intersection. The vehicle had two occupants: a 28-year-old woman (driver) and 22-year-old woman (passenger), both from Ormond Beach.

At the same time, a 35-year-old Ormond Beach man was riding a 1985 Honda CMX250 motorcycle eastbound on State Road 40, near the same intersection. According to the report, the ATV proceeded to enter the direct path of the motorcycle, resulting in a head-on collision.

Both of the ATV’s occupants were transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in serious condition. The report stated that they were not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

An FHP trooper noted in the report that the crash remains under investigation.
