A 54-year-old woman died on Sunday following an officer-involved shooting at a Publix parking lot in Ocoee.
According to the Ocoee Police Department, the shooting occurred at around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 10, in the parking lot of the Publix located at 301 West Road.
OPD stated that officers responded to the parking lot on Sunday morning after receiving reports of a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, the vehicle in question was located, and two officers began approaching it.
The driver of the vehicle – later identified by police as Stacie Lynn Guerrero – allegedly “put the vehicle in motion.” According to OPD, Guerrero then proceeded to drive toward both officers, striking them with the vehicle.
In response, one of the officers fired their service weapon at the vehicle, striking Guerrero.
After the shooting, Guerrero was transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
“Neither officer sustained serious injuries,” said OPD in an update on Monday afternoon.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating this incident.
Both officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, according to OPD.
