A 68-year-old DeLand man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend.
On Friday, August 15, at around 11:20 a.m., Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an apartment complex located in the 2700 block of Botts Landing Road in DeLand. Upon arrival, they found a deceased male victim who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The victim was identified as 42-year-old Christopher Alan Wooldridge.
According to VCSO, an investigation revealed that Huertas Figueroa and his girlfriend, who lived together in one of the apartments, had gotten into a “brief physical encounter” on Thursday, August 14. This incident was not reported to law enforcement.
On the day of the shooting, Huertas Figueroa’s girlfriend contacted her ex-boyfriend, Wooldridge, and requested that he “pick her up” from her apartment. When Wooldridge arrived, Huertas Figueroa allegedly confronted him and told him to leave.
VCSO stated that Wooldridge remained at the incident location. Huertas Figueroa then allegedly confronted Wooldridge again before shooting him multiple times.
Deputies located Huertas Figueroa at the incident location and detained him. Following an interview, Huertas Figueroa was placed under arrest and booked into Volusia County Jail on the first-degree murder charge.
Jail records show that Huertas Figueroa is being held without bond.
