A stolen cellphone helped Volusia County deputies track down a man accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home, attacking one of her friends, and firing a gun inside her bedroom.
On Sunday, August 31, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a local residence in reference to an armed home invasion. A female victim told deputies that her ex-boyfriend, 24-year-old Jerron Anthony Singletary, had broken into her house, according to VCSO.
The victim advised that Singletary broke her bedroom window before jumping through it. He then allegedly began punching one of the victim’s friends, who was inside the bedroom at the time of the incident.
Singletary then allegedly pulled out a gun and fired a single shot into the ceiling before grabbing his ex-girlfriend’s cellphone, which was on the floor. He then proceeded to jump out the broken window, according to VCSO.
When deputies arrived at the incident location, they spotted Singletary’s vehicle. The sheriff’s office stated that Singletary fled from the deputies, though they were able to use the stolen cellphone to track his vehicle as it headed out of Deltona.
Singletary allegedly headed toward Lake Helen before abandoning his vehicle on Cassadaga Road. A deputy soon arrived at that scene with a K-9 partner, and they tracked Singletary through the woods to a nearby property, where he was found hiding under a recreational vehicle, according to VCSO.
While searching the area, law enforcement found a “partially buried” gun under the RV.

Singletary was placed under arrest and booked into Volusia County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. He is being charged with home invasion robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault, grand theft (over $750 but less than $5,000), criminal mischief, fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, and violation of probation.
