A suspect is in custody following a fatal shooting that occurred early Monday morning at a condominium complex in Volusia County.
Shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday, September 29, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 100 block of Orchid Woods Court in Deltona after multiple callers reported hearing gunshots and screaming in the area, according to VCSO.
Upon arrival at the condo complex, deputies located a 21-year-old male victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds outside the door of a second-floor unit. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
VCSO stated that a nearby doorbell camera captured the suspect at the time of the shooting, which provided investigators with a detailed description of the suspect.
At around 1:15 a.m., a man matching the description of the suspect was spotted near the intersection of Providence Boulevard and Perimeter Drive. A deputy who was in the area made contact with the suspect and detained him in handcuffs, according to VCSO.
A few minutes later, a VCSO K-9 unit was conducting a search of the area when a black backpack was found. According to the sheriff’s office, investigators believe the backpack was discarded by the suspect along a nearby bike trail.
“The investigation is continuing at this hour and charges are pending,” said VCSO in a social media post on Monday morning.
No further details were provided by the sheriff’s office regarding the fatal shooting, the victim’s identity, or the identity of the suspect in this case.
