A 68-year-old man accused of murdering a woman in Arkansas was arrested in Volusia County on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, detectives located a fugitive, identified as Mark Randolph Brown, in the area of North Shell Road in DeLand at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1. Brown was taken into custody without further incident.

VCSO stated that Brown is wanted by Arkansas State Police in connection with the shooting death of 69-year-old Mona Sloop, which occurred in Searcy County, Arkansas, in late July.

On the day of the shooting, Searcy County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home located on Shady Grove Road in Searcy County, Arkansas, where they found Sloop’s deceased body.

Law enforcement officials in Arkansas stated that the deadly shooting appeared to be an isolated incident. No further details were provided.

Brown is facing a capital murder charge. He is currently in custody at Volusia County Jail, where he awaits extradition to Searcy County, Arkansas.
