A 23-year-old man accused of attacking a woman and attempting to rape her on an Orange County trail has been arrested.

Back on Friday, July 25, shortly before 9 a.m., a man attacked a woman from behind and attempted to rape her while she was running on the Little Econ Greenway trail near Yates Road, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim told investigators that she was grabbed from behind while she was jogging on the trail, and the suspect proceeded to choke her until she blacked out. When she regained consciousness, she noticed that some of her clothing had been removed.

OCSO launched an investigation into the incident, and a tip eventually led investigators to identifying Jacoby Vontell Tillman as the suspect.

On Friday, October 10, Tillman was placed under arrest and booked into Orange County Jail, where he is being held without bond. He is facing the following charges: attempted sexual battery, battery by strangulation, and false imprisonment.

“Please always remain vigilant if you are out running or walking,” said OCSO in a social media post. “Try to go with someone, instead of running alone. Make sure to share your location with a friend. Avoid using the noise-canceling feature on headphones or earbuds.”

OCSO added that if you see anything suspicious, please call 911 so that deputies can respond and conduct an investigation.
