SPC Ruben Rivera Alvarado of Saint Cloud, Florida, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025. He was 87 years old.
Born on March 20, 1938, in Caguas, Puerto Rico and a longtime resident of Waukegan, Illinois. Ruben was the son of Maria Alvarado and Fernando Rivera, and stepson to Julia Garcia Villegas.
In 1961, Ruben joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1967.
Ruben is survived by his children: Lewis Rivera of Vernon Hills, Illinois; Irene Rivera of Greyslake, Illinois; Sonya Rivera of Dr. Phillips, Florida; and Kelly Rivera of Saint Cloud, Florida.
Ruben is survived by his grandchildren: Jasiaha Delgado, Jayvien Rivera-Gonzalez, Sophia Henne, Adrian Hernandez, and Mia-Elyse Plavnick, as well as his beloved family dog, Suki.
Ruben is survived by his siblings: Luis Rivera Alvarado, Fernando Rivera Garcia, Angeles Rivera Garcia, Nellie Rivera Garcia, and Radames Rivera Garcia.
Ruben was preceded in death by his siblings: Juana Garmendis Alvarado, Lionel Garmendis Alvarado, Vicente Garmendis Alvarado, Jose Rivera Alvarado, Radames Rivera Alvarado, and Roberto Rivera Garcia.
Ruben was a devoted and compassionate man who deeply cherished his family and friends. He was a wonderful father and an equally loving and supportive grandfather. Known for his kindness and generosity, Ruben made friends effortlessly and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Ruben lived a life full of love, laughter, and devotion to his family.
