A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed on Friday morning after crashing into a minivan that was attempting to make a U-turn at an intersection in Seminole County.

The fatal crash occurred shortly after 9:45 a.m. on Friday, October 24, at the intersection of State Road 46 and Swamp Lane, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

FHP stated that the minivan, a 2016 Kia Sedona, was heading westbound on State Road 46 when it came to a stop in the right turn lane at the intersection of Swamp Lane.

At the same time, a 19-year-old Geneva man was riding a 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on State Road 46, near the same intersection, in the straight lane, according to the report.

A trooper noted that the minivan’s driver, a 43-year-old Sanford woman, began to make a U-turn from the right turn lane. As a result, the minivan entered the motorcycle’s direct path, and its left side was struck by the front of the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was transported to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford, where he was pronounced deceased. The report mentioned that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The minivan’s driver was also taken to the same hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
