A knife-wielding Deltona man was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly injured his father and threatened to kill four children inside a local residence.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home located on Fowler Drive in Deltona after receiving reports of a domestic disturbance, according to VCSO.

The sheriff’s office stated that a man armed with a “large hunting knife,” later identified as 22-year-old Trevor Johnny Nieves-Gonzalez, had allegedly injured one person and threatened to kill four children who were inside the home.

Upon arrival at the incident location, a deputy observed Nieves-Gonzalez and his father outside of the residence. According to VCSO, Nieves-Gonzalez’s father placed himself between his son and the deputy in an attempt to “prevent a potential shooting.”

Nieves-Gonzalez was wielding a knife, and deputies instructed him to drop the weapon. Moments later, Nieves-Gonzalez threw the knife onto the ground, according to VCSO.

He is being charged with aggravated battery with bodily harm, two counts of aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony, four counts of child abuse, resisting an officer with violence, and battery on a law enforcement officer.

According to VCSO, Nieves-Gonzalez’s father had sustained a knife wound to the back of his head, and he received treatment for his injuries prior to the arrival of law enforcement. No other injuries were reported.
