Maynard Highland, better known as Greg, entered the pearly gates of heaven on November 1, 2025. He was born on April 9, 1961 in Queens, NY to his loving parents, William and Doretha Highland who preceded him in death. He also had a younger sister named Pamela Highland, who also preceded him in death.
Maynard graduated from Martin Van Buren high school in 1979 before furthering his education at Queens College where he obtained a degree in business administration. After college, Maynard took multiple city exams. He was a traffic agent for a short while then worked for the Department of Corrections from March 31, 1988 and later retiring in 2008. But Maynard did not stop there. While battling cancer, he achieved a certificate in carpentry at the HBI Institute of Orlando, Florida. A true testament to his resilience.
Maynard was a strong believer of God and had a personal relationship with the Lord. Maynard held the key to the hearts and funny bones of everyone around him. It was never a dull moment when Maynard started going and at times it seemed like the jokes would never end if you were in the hot seat. Just a few minutes walk from what the kids called Poppy’s house, Maynard’s house on Anderson Rd in Queens, New York was a safe haven for all cousins, family and friends to kick back, relax and enjoy life. Maynard’s parties were always a hit and cars would flood his neighborhood whenever he threw one. Walking into his backyard, Maynard always had Biggie Smalls, Sade or some smooth Jazz pulsating. Everyone knew where the good vibes and good food would be as well as a good VSOP! There wasn’t a Giants game missed in Maynard’s home!
We thank you, Maynard for providing shelter for generations that came after you. We thank you for showing up in any way you can for your children, their children, nieces and nephews while also reminding them to work and make their own money because nothing in life comes free. Maynard was the definition of an entrepreneur and instilled an entrepreneurial mindset in all of the young ones around him. From creating VHS tapes in the 80/90s to his Landscaping business in the early 2000s, Maynard was a go getter, funding his fishing excursions as well as his lavish lifestyle of foreign cars, jewelry and of course, beautiful women.
Maynard leaves to cherish his memory: one Sister, Ronda Highland (Preston) of Long Island, New York. Five children; Kevin Highland of California, Natasha Highland of Atlanta, Georgia, Avery Highland of New York City, Vaughn Highland of New Jersey, and Maynisa Highland of New York. Four grandchildren Lykeam and Shimere of Atlanta, and Dezman and Kiree of California. One niece, Shalonda (Great Nephew Kamren and Great Niece Kalaya) and one Nephew, Anthon. Three step children, Chantell, Candice, and Jeffrey and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, godchildren and dear friends.
