Orlando police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred at a local tattoo shop on Friday afternoon.
Members of the Orlando Police Department SWAT team responded to the 4800 block of Edgewater Drive at around 2 p.m. on Friday, November 14, to serve a search warrant at a tattoo shop. The search warrant involved multiple suspects, according to OPD.
The police department stated that the criminal histories of those suspects included the following charges: burglary, armed robbery, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, sex and drug offenses, grand theft of a motor vehicle, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
At around 2:05 p.m. on Friday, OPD officers spotted a male suspect who was fleeing from the tattoo shop. The suspect was armed with an “AK-47-style rifle,” according to police.
Several officers fired at the suspect as he ran behind the back of the business.
Approximately one hour later, SWAT team members entered the tattoo shop and located a suspect who was deceased.
“The officers involved in this shooting were not injured and have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure,” said OPD.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an independent review of the shooting incident, and the results of that investigation will be forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office for further review.
OPD’s internal investigation into the officer-involved shooting also remains “active and ongoing.”
No further details were provided by Orlando police.
