A DeLand man has been arrested on attempted murder and aggravated assault charges in connection with a shooting incident that critically injured his roommate early Sunday morning.
Shortly after 5 a.m. on Sunday, November 23, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies and DeLand police officers responded to the 1500 block of W New York Avenue in DeLand after receiving reports of a shooting, according to VCSO.
When law enforcement officers arrived on-scene, they found a 47-year-old male victim who was lying in the carport outside a residence. The sheriff’s office stated that the victim was conscious, and he had sustained gunshot wounds to his face and hip.
The officers quickly rendered aid to stop the victim’s bleeding. The victim was then taken to a local hospital, where he was later listed in critical but stable condition.
In a social media post, VCSO stated that the victim is expected to survive.
While investigating the incident, VCSO deputies made contact with a man, identified as 41-year-old Anselmo Salazar Colin, who is the victim’s roommate.
An investigation into the shooting allegedly revealed that Salazar Colin and the victim had consumed alcoholic beverages on the night of Saturday, November 22. Investigators believe that following a “night of drinking,” Salazar Colin allegedly shot the victim.
No further details were provided by law enforcement.
Salazar Colin was placed under arrest and booked into Volusia County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. He is being charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
In addition, Salazar Colin is facing charges of transmitting harmful material to a minor (two counts) stemming from an active warrant.
The shooting incident remains under investigation, according to VCSO.
