A man accused of stealing a BMW from a Volusia County park is claiming that he “teleported” into the vehicle shortly before it was involved in a high-speed crash.
On Monday, December 8, a male victim told Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies that his BMW convertible had been stolen from Bicentennial Park. He stated that the vehicle had been left unlocked while he walked his dog at the park, and the keys had been left in a closed cupholder, according to VCSO.
A few minutes after the theft was reported, the stolen BMW crashed near the intersection of Old Dixie Highway and Plantation Oaks Boulevard. Several witnesses told deputies that they pulled the driver from the wreckage, and they estimated that the vehicle was traveling at speeds of over 100 mph at the time of the crash.

In a social media post on Tuesday, December 9, VCSO released body camera footage of the incident, which shows deputies approaching the driver who was identified as 36-year-old Calvin Curtis Johnson. His face was bloodied from the single-vehicle crash.
While speaking with deputies, Johnson denied stealing the vehicle and claimed that he “teleported” into it. He further thanked the deputies for “saving him from the aliens.”
Johnson was placed under arrest and transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. After being medically cleared, he was booked into Volusia County Jail and charged with the following: grand theft of a motor vehicle and driving with a canceled, suspended, or revoked license.
