Volusia County detectives are investigating a fatal shooting in Deltona that left a teenager dead on Christmas night.
Shortly before 8:50 p.m. on Thursday, December 25, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 2000 block of El Campo Avenue in reference to multiple shots being fired.
When deputies arrived, they found a victim, identified as 17-year-old Brenden Watkins, who had sustained several gunshot wounds.
The deputies attempted life-saving measures on Watkins, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the shooting.
According to VCSO, initial findings from the agency’s investigation revealed that the shooting may have occurred during an attempted robbery.
“No suspect is in custody at (this) time,” stated VCSO in a social media post on Friday, December 26. “Detectives are actively pursuing leads and gathering additional information, and more details will be provided when available.”

Detectives with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a separate shooting that claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy on Christmas Eve.
