Hazel Verduin, 88, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and cherished memories.
Born on May 28, 1937, in Massena, NY, Hazel spent much of her life in Gouverneur, NY, on Apple Hill Farm, where she and her husband Calvin raised livestock, primarily sheep. Together, they built a life rooted in hard work and dedication to their land. They were regular fixtures at the New York State Fair and the Gouverneur Fair, where they found friendship and belonging among fellow farmers and neighbors.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Verduin.
She is survived by her three daughters: Lynn Verduin (Brian Trippany), Sue Verduin (Shila), and Sandy Pellegrino (Jay); her two granddaughters, Janelle Trippany (Kevin Goodrich) and Kaitlin Trippany (Tyler Simmons); and her three great-grandchildren, Henry Goodrich, Calvin Simmons, and Teagan Simmons.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Hazel dedicated her life to raising her children and nurturing her family with unconditional love. In her later years, she moved to Berkshire, NY to be closer to Lynn and Brian, before relocating with them to Oviedo, FL. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where she became famous for her sugar cookies that brought joy to everyone who tasted them. She had a special love for her dogs, particularly Rusty and Petey, who were her faithful companions.
Hazel will be remembered for her generous spirit, her warm smile, and the love she gave so freely to all who knew her. She leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of her family and friends.
