Sulochana Shahane, 75, of Orlando, FL, passed away on January 12, 2026, surrounded
by her loved ones after a long battle with her health.

She was born in Mumbai, India, as one of five siblings whom she loved very much. Since her early days she was a born leader and extremely determined. She attended DS high school in Mumbai. She was the first woman in her family to seek higher education. She started working at State Bank of India in her young adult life to help pay for her own education. She attended SIES College with a Bachelor of Arts at Bombay University. She became a devoted wife in 1975 after marrying her dear husband, Sudhir Shahane. They moved to the United States and specifically Florida shortly after getting married. She finished her education with a bachelor’s degree at FIU in Miami, FL and majored in computer science. She became a software developer. She worked for Broward County and developed multiple programs including software for the medical examiners department for the county.

She welcomed her first and only child Manali on July 29,1983 and became a devoted mother. She enjoyed being a mother and immersed herself in her daughter’s life. She was selfless, involved and brought so much joy to her daughter’s life. She loved staying active, especially walking and was an avid Miami Dolphins football fan.

In 1997, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and required chemotherapy and surgery. She fought through it and came back stronger. She enjoyed walking and talking with her friends. She became a grandmother on July 7, 2010, welcoming her grandson, Jaimin. She moved closer to the Orlando area and retired early in 2011 to be with her grandson. She found great purpose and joy as a grandmother and became even more blessed with the arrival of her granddaughter Anika on June 22, 2012. Her grandkids became her shining stars and she showed them so much love and attention that they will cherish forever. She enjoyed being so close to the whole family in Orlando including her husband, daughter, son-in-law, and
grandchildren.

Although, she was able to beat cancer her health took a turn for the worse when her kidneys started failing due to an autoimmune condition. She was able to live a relatively healthy life for several years with the condition but in 2014 she had to go on dialysis. She went through further health challenges due to complications of a failed kidney transplant and long-term dialysis. Through it all she showed everyone just how incredibly tough and resilient she really was. She was faced with many health obstacles requiring multiple hospitalizations and ICU stays. She kept fighting as she wanted more time with her family. She was a true warrior.

During her final days, the family was able to celebrate her 75th birthday on January 9th, 2026. Although she was not fully responsive prior to the celebration, during that brief moment when the family was singing her “happy birthday”, her eyes opened and she gave a small smile especially when she saw her grandkids. That special moment will be cherished forever by the family. Family meant everything to Sulochana and it was always her “why.” It was the reason she would endlessly fight through those health battles. Her presence was comforting and magnetic. She always made you feel like everything was going to be ok. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her large family including her caring and doting husband Sudhir of 50 years, daughter Manali and grandchildren Jaimin and Anika.
